Cynthia Miltenberger received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance from the University of Arizona, and her dance teaching credential from Arizona State University. Cynthia’s early life began in Tucson, Arizona with limited resources financially as well as opportunities for advancement. With that said, she has been an arts advocate since her beginning years of college.
Cynthia resides in Los Angeles, California where she has been a dance specialist for the Los Angeles Unified School District for the past twelve years. Living in Los Angeles as a single woman solely on a humble teachers salary has prohibited her from participating in many areas for professional advancement. With that said, she decided to lead by example and create her own professional advancement through her children's dance advocacy platform to continue improving the lives of children and communities with her workshop series ”You are a Masterpiece” and arts integration book, and brand art moves. The adversity she have overcome in her life is her gift to children for they have been instrumental in her advocacy initiatives. art moves has partnered with the Ronald McDonald House and L.A. Housing for art moves 4th annual charity event Kostumes for Kids.
As a public school dance itinerant, she has witnessed a new generation of children that are dealing with multiple hardships and stress factors that make it challenging for them to learn and experience arts and culture. More children are coming from broken homes, experiencing financial challenges, and some form of bullying/emotional/physical abuse to name a few. As a guest lecturer, Cynthia has had recent appearances including LAUSD workshops, California Arts Council, Save the Arts, Pacific Lodge Youth Services, The Tyler Project, Step Up Women’s Network, and Belhaven University
Adapted from the book, her latest workshop “You are a Masterpiece.” based on mindfulness, movement, and advocacy through the dance pioneers of the 20th century. Dancers explore “breath” as an introduction to mindfulness translating into the lifework, technique, and advocacy of each pioneer. Dancers understand self-advocacy through each dance pioneers personal struggle. The vocabulary of art moves inspires dancers to explore everyday movement in an organic context to produce authentic movement that translates into techniques of modern dance. Each dancer receives a copy of the workshop diary accompaniment “Masterpiece Memoirs.”.
Cynthia plans to continue her workshop series through community outreach by collaborating with art institutions, non-profits, and community events showcasing that every person is a masterpiece!
